USAID Quietly Sent Thousands Of Viruses To Chinese Military-Linked Biolab (DCNF Exclusive)
By Daily Caller News Foundation investigative reporter Emily Kopp The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) shipped thousands of viral samples to a lab in Wuhan over the course of a 10-year program even though it had no formal agreement with the lab in place, according to previously unreported documents. The documents show that USAID funded the exportation of 11,000 samples from Yunnan Province, where some of the closest relatives of the COVID-19 virus circulate, to Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic, with no apparent plan for ensuring the samples were not misdirected to bioweapons and remained accessible to the U.S. government. Something Out Of A Horror Movie A $210 million USAID public health program called PREDICT, steered by the University of California-Davis, collected viral samples in countries throughout the globe but lacked long-term storage when funding dried up, according to rudimentary plans in 2019. USAID’s sample dispensation plan for China is sparse: “No need [sic] information from Yunnan. They were never an official lab partner for PREDICT. All samples they helped collected [sic] are sent to, tested, and stored in Wuhan.” The “lab” refers to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). WIV was a close partner of USAID contractor EcoHealth Alliance and a slated partner for a PREDICT-like program supported by the State Department. The lab has poor biosafety practices and ties to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). COVID-19 Included One of the closest known relatives of the COVID virus is among the viruses sampled with USAID funding. “Investigations involving USAID’s former funding of global health awards remain active and ongoing,” a senior State Department official said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The American people can rest assured knowing that under the Trump Administration we will not be funding these controversial programs.” (RELATED: COVID-19 mRNA Shots Linked To Higher Death Toll Amongst Cancer Patients) The internal documents were obtained through a FOIA lawsuit brought by U.S. Right to Know, a nonprofit newsroom and public health research group. The shuttering of USAID – which was officially completed Tuesday – has ignited a debate about its net impact on global health. A study in The Lancet projected an association between a dropoff in USAID funding and 14 million deaths based on an epidemiological model. Undermining American Interests Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement Tuesday that USAID spending has often undermined rather than strengthened American interests. “Beyond creating a globe-spanning NGO industrial complex at taxpayer expense, USAID has little to show since the end of the Cold War,” Rubio said. “Development objectives have rarely been met, instability has often worsened, and anti-American sentiment has only grown.” The now-defunct agency’s connection to the Wuhan lab complicates its global health legacy. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment. Did USAID Fund COVID’s Ancestor? Many of the viruses stored at the lab in Wuhan may have been sampled with U.S. funding yet remain out of reach for U.S. government entities investigating the origins of COVID. The samples were set to be preserved for testing – with human samples preserved for 10 years – the documents show. But the documents suggest that requirement was never incorporated into a formal contract with USAID. The two scientists supervising the samples were: Ben Hu, a virologist at the WIV, who reportedly became sick with COVID-like symptoms in 2019; and Peter Daszak, a scientist who was debarred from federal funding after the U.S. government deemed him a threat to public safety for inadequate oversight of the research in Wuhan. Hu and Daszak did not reply to requests for comment. The documents show PREDICT contractors discussing viral samples taken from wildlife and stored in India, Liberia, Malaysia, the Republic of Congo and China. Some of the samples were stored in virus-transport media (VTM), which allows researchers to store live viruses for later use in the lab. Democrats have blamed climate change and agency rollbacks for creating tinderbox conditions, but forestry experts see a self-inflicted wound that began festering as far back as the Clinton administration. Three decades of environmental litigation, they say, has warped forest management into a Byzantine maze of legal delays and procedural dead ends — leaving millions of acres to accumulate fuel faster than anyone can clear it. The blame game intensified Friday as Democratic California Gov. Newsom Attacks Republicans On Violent Crime — Data Tell Different Story

Gavin Newsom’s attacks on Republican states for their murder rates ignore a wealth of data on how violent crime plagues left-leaning parts of the country. Newsom boasted in X posts throughout June that Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri had higher murder rates than California after Republican lawmakers from those states criticized him over the anti-deportation riots that rocked Los Angeles. However, statistics show California ranks above most states in overall violent crime, one of several statistics that do not fit Newsom’s narrative of conservatives failing to crack down on criminals. A study by Paper Prisons Initiative in 2020 put California’s felony rate among the top 15 in the country. The violent anti-ICE uprising quickly spread to other states in mostly Democrat-led cities after the Los Angeles riots began June 6. Even on violent crime specifically, Newsom’s claims were questioned. The left-leaning Politifact acknowledged that California’s overall violent crime rate ranked sixth in the country in 2023, higher than that of Oklahoma and Alabama, according to FBI data. You’re more likely to be murdered, sexually assaulted, or shot in a red state than in California,” a Newsom spokesperson told the DCNF. “Since taking office, Governor Newsom has invested over $1.1 billion to improve public safety, fund the police, and crack down on organized crime. That’s why California is seeing results — and the Governor is committed to building on that progress.” Smith noted another inconvenient fact for California stemming from Proposition 47, a measure passed in 2014 that reduced penalties for crimes such as shoplifting and grand theft. “The theft undercount in California was huge due to the fact that crime victims stopped reporting due to Prop 47,” Smith told the DCNF. A bipartisan state commission found in July 2024 that theft reporting decreased by more than 7% from 2010 to 2022 while many violent crimes were reported to be spiking. Voters overturned most of Proposition 47 in November. Newsom also highlighted Republican states’ murder rates in 2022, suggesting Democrats should use the data to push back on accusations that their party is soft on crime. Experts previously told the DCNF that Newsom’s fixation on statewide statistics ignores the fact that liberal cities are often catalysts for violent crime around the country. Nine of the ten cities with the highest murder rates in 2024 all had mayors who were Democrats or left-leaning nonpartisan candidates, according to data from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Two cities were in California, the only state to have more than one city on the top ten list. TMM Analysis Once again, we are begging you not to turn America into California. Newsom is truly trying his hardest to become a big noise ahead of the 2026 midterms, possibly the 2028 presidential election, he has done absolutely nothing to mitigate the macro-social decline taking place through his state. California may have the most beautiful beaches, national parks, and natural landscape, it is home to some of the most dangerous politicians this nation has ever seen. Not only do none of Newsom’s policies on crime align with actual crime reduction, but even his climate change initiatives don’t work. In a recent study by WalletHub, California ranked in the Top Worst cities for air pollution, while boasting the worst-run cities overall. Whether or not the real Newsom is running his own social media, making all of these very silly comments, is unclear. What is clear is that you need to ensure that you avoid voting for anyone who could replicate Newsom’s work in your own state.

On Friday night, around 1,000 individuals caused chaos in the city, surrounding a federal building, attacking ICE agents, deflating tires, and vandalizing government property, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The unrest led to significant damage and severe traffic disruptions, halting traffic on several critical city roads. Trump authorized the National Guard’s deployment on Saturday night to assist local law enforcement and warned Democratic California Gov.
