Democrats have blamed climate change and agency rollbacks for creating tinderbox conditions, but forestry experts see a self-inflicted wound that began festering as far back as the Clinton administration. But Bob Zybach, an author and wildfire expert who has led the Oregon Websites and Watersheds Project since 1996, sees a different cause for California’s chronic wildfire problem. It’s not Trump, it’s the people, the litigants, who keep suing to shut down the timber industry which has allowed the fuels to build up.” Newsom’s office did not respond to a request for comment. Democrats have already begun a chorus of preemptive condemnations against Trump ahead of wildfire season. California Sen. Alex Padilla said in February he expects the president’s “flagrantly illegal” cuts to environmental agencies will “jeopardize communities that depend on a robust federal response to our wildfire crisis.” Similarly, Newsom accused Trump’s cuts to the Forest Service of creating “rampant uncertainty ahead of peak wildfire season” in May, sentiments echoed in stories from The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times in mid June. But the numbers tell a story of long-accelerating destruction: before 2000, California experienced 45 mega-fires over an entire century, but since then, 35 mega-fires have scorched the state in just 25 years, with 2020 alone burning 4.3 million acres and causing $19 billion in economic devastation, according to Frontline Wildfire Defense. Zybach credits this worsening regulatory logjam to environmental lawsuits funded through the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), which pays plaintiffs’ attorney fees when they beat the government in civil cases. “We have paid these people to shut down the work that would, one, produce good income for our rural counties and rural families, but two, would greatly reduce wildfire risk,” he said. Smith explained that even when these groups lose cases, they receive compensation for partial victories, creating a litigation industrial complex that profits while forests collect deadly fuel loads. The Center has collected at least $4 million in EAJA awards since 2001, according to federal records. CBD has disputed such characterizations in past congressional testimony, telling lawmakers it “receives little income from federal litigation fee and cost recovery” and that any awards merely offset out-of-pocket expenses. Newsom Attacks Republicans On Violent Crime — Data Tell Different Story

Newsom boasted in X posts throughout June that Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri had higher murder rates than California after Republican lawmakers from those states criticized him over the anti-deportation riots that rocked Los Angeles. However, statistics show California ranks above most states in overall violent crime, one of several statistics that do not fit Newsom’s narrative of conservatives failing to crack down on criminals. A study by Paper Prisons Initiative in 2020 put California’s felony rate among the top 15 in the country. The violent anti-ICE uprising quickly spread to other states in mostly Democrat-led cities after the Los Angeles riots began June 6. Even on violent crime specifically, Newsom’s claims were questioned. The left-leaning Politifact acknowledged that California’s overall violent crime rate ranked sixth in the country in 2023, higher than that of Oklahoma and Alabama, according to FBI data. You’re more likely to be murdered, sexually assaulted, or shot in a red state than in California,” a Newsom spokesperson told the DCNF. “Since taking office, Governor Newsom has invested over $1.1 billion to improve public safety, fund the police, and crack down on organized crime. That’s why California is seeing results — and the Governor is committed to building on that progress.” Smith noted another inconvenient fact for California stemming from Proposition 47, a measure passed in 2014 that reduced penalties for crimes such as shoplifting and grand theft. “The theft undercount in California was huge due to the fact that crime victims stopped reporting due to Prop 47,” Smith told the DCNF. A bipartisan state commission found in July 2024 that theft reporting decreased by more than 7% from 2010 to 2022 while many violent crimes were reported to be spiking. Voters overturned most of Proposition 47 in November. Newsom also highlighted Republican states’ murder rates in 2022, suggesting Democrats should use the data to push back on accusations that their party is soft on crime. Experts previously told the DCNF that Newsom’s fixation on statewide statistics ignores the fact that liberal cities are often catalysts for violent crime around the country. Nine of the ten cities with the highest murder rates in 2024 all had mayors who were Democrats or left-leaning nonpartisan candidates, according to data from the Rochester Institute of Technology. California may have the most beautiful beaches, national parks, and natural landscape, it is home to some of the most dangerous politicians this nation has ever seen. Not only do none of Newsom’s policies on crime align with actual crime reduction, but even his climate change initiatives don’t work. Whether or not the real Newsom is running his own social media, making all of these very silly comments, is unclear. On Friday night, around 1,000 individuals caused chaos in the city, surrounding a federal building, attacking ICE agents, deflating tires, and vandalizing government property, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The unrest led to significant damage and severe traffic disruptions, halting traffic on several critical city roads. Trump authorized the National Guard’s deployment on Saturday night to assist local law enforcement and warned Democratic California Gov. Anti-Trump DIA Employee Arrested For Allegedly Leaking Top Secret Intel to Foreign Government

An IT specialist employed by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has been arrested for allegedly attempting to transmit classified national security information to a foreign government. Nathan Vilas Laatsch, 28, was arrested close to the nation’s capital and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in June. Laatsch became a civilian employee of the DIA in 2019 and held Top Secret security clearance in the Insider Threat Division. In March, the FBI launched an investigation after receiving a tip that an individual offered classified information to a “friendly” foreign government. The federal employee apparently indicated in an email that he did not “agree or align with the values of this administration” and was therefore “willing to share classified information” to which he had access, including “completed intelligence products, some unprocessed intelligence, and other assorted classified documentation.” Following communications with an undercover FBI agent, the anti-Trump employee began transcribing classified information to a notepad at his desk. The FBI then organized an operation in a public park where Laatsch was said to have planned to deposit the classified information for the foreign government to retrieve. “On May 1, FBI surveillance observed Laatsch proceed to the specified location and deposit an item. Following Laatsch’s departure, the FBI retrieved the item, which was a thumb drive later found to contain a message from Laatsch and multiple typed documents, each containing information that was portion-marked up to the Secret or Top Secret levels,” prosecutors said in the press release. “The message from Laatsch indicated that he had chosen to include ‘a decent sample size’ of classified information to ‘decently demonstrate the range of types of products’ to which he had access.” After receiving confirmation that the package had been received, he again contacted the undercover FBI agent and asked for compensation. Additional meetings were set up by agents after Laatsch agreed to share more classified information. California’s median home price topped $900,000 in 2024 — well over double the national average — while utility and gas prices remain among the country’s highest. The state’s population decreased for the first time in history in 2020, when over 477,000 Californians left, leading to the state losing a congressional seat. The population continued to decline until 2023, buoyed by an influx of international immigrants. Population Trends The H-1B visa program, which allows businesses to employ skilled foreign workers with bachelor’s degrees, brought nearly 79,000 workers to the state in 2024, WSJ reported. However, applications for the program fell by 25% compared to a year ago due to higher fees and expectations that the Trump administration could impose more restrictive immigration policies. The H-1B visa program has sparked fierce debate among Republicans in recent months. While big names such as Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have defended the program, opponents have argued it allows companies to undercut American workers by importing cheaper labor from abroad. In addition to California, many states rely on immigration to drive population growth. In 38 states and Washington, D.C., immigration outpaced domestic migration last year, and in 16 states, it was the only reason populations grew, WSJ reported. California has the highest share of foreign-born residents in the nation, with more than 25% of its population born outside the U.S., according to the Public Policy Institute of California. As of 2022, about 17% of California’s immigrant population was in the country illegally, according to the Pew Research Center. WHO Passes ‘Pandemic Agreement’ Even Though Pretty Much None Of Us Agreed To It

The World Health Organization (WHO) adopted a global pandemic agreement on May 20, allowing the unelected group of representatives to create “legally binding” rules for the masses should another disease spread throughout our species. The full agreement is designed to better prevent, prepare, and respond to any potential mass disease outbreak. “This includes through the equitable and timely access to vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics,” WHO members said in a statement accompanying the agreement. The WHO Agreement only applies to the nation states that have officially signed it, which does not include the U.S. The U.S. was not part of the final stages of the pandemic agreement process following President Donald Trump’s decision to leave WHO, according to The Associated Press. It is also a recognition by the international community that our citizens, societies and economies must not be left vulnerable to again suffer losses like those endured during COVID-19,” he added. Britain Signs Despite Previous Stance U.S. ally, Great Britain, adopted the agreement, claiming it would “protect [the] British public and NHS from future global health threats while preserving UK sovereignty,” and “will safeguard lives and [the] UK economy by improving [the] world’s collective ability to prevent, prepare for, detect and respond to global disease threats.” These statements fly in the face of previous statements from the British government. In May 2024, Britain was preparing to reject the agreement on the grounds that it created something of a “New World Order,” handing over mass control of medical, health, food, and other major infrastructural systems to a completely unelected group of people. On top of that, accelerating progress on AI will allow such global control to be very intrusive and very effectively manipulated in the hands of a few.” The WHO “agreement” also (according to another analysis from the Washington Stand): threatens national sovereignty; equates the health of humans with animals and plants; establishes a global super-government of unelected bureaucrats, who may alter the agreement at any time; transfers one-fifth of all U.S. vaccines and emergency equipment to WHO and regular monetary contributions to “developing countries” (a category that includes China); requires nations to follow WHO regulations on “routine immunization” and “social measures” including lockdowns, mask mandates, and social distancing; calls on nations to study factors that reduce public “trust” in government pandemic policies, such as mask and vaccine mandates or social distancing; would empower private-sector forces such as social media companies to ramp up censorship of disfavored viewpoints; aims to create equity-driven, universal national health care systems around the globe; does not define the terms “pandemic,” “gender,” or “women”; and has a “Hotel California” provision stating that a nation can never discharge any “obligations which accrued while it was a Party to the WHO Pandemic Agreement,” even after it withdraws. ROOKE: Blue State Should Pay The Price For Breaking America’s Greatest Promise
by Mary Rooke, commentary & analysis writer The First Amendment protects American citizens’ right to free speech, but a recently passed Colorado bill plays into left-wing ideology that violates this promise and more. Under the guise of “anti-discrimination” and adding legal protection for so-called transgender individuals, Colorado lawmakers adopted into law House Bill 25-1312, “Legal Protections for Transgender Individuals,” which may violate the First and Fourteenth Amendments. This bill puts the government and schools in charge of the welfare of children by requiring that the courts consider whether parents committed cardinal sins of transgender ideology like deadnaming or misgendering, which is now considered “coercive control” under the law. It also prevents the court from removing a child from a parent for allowing the child to receive so-called “gender-affirming care services.” These procedures are known to cause irreversible damage to children’s bodies, including removing healthy organs and loss of future fertility. Fines For Free Speech HB 25-1312 also changes the state law to include deadnaming and misgendering as discriminatory acts. This makes using biological pronouns and birth names in a public place a discriminatory practice, which could mean fines starting at $5,000 per violation. It requires teachers to use “chosen” names and pronouns, and that school districts provide clothes and other amenities for these confused children, even if the parents disapprove. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624, 642 (1943). The state cannot place its thumb on the scale to favor one side of a contentious public debate. It certainly cannot stifle viewpoints it doesn’t like simply because it finds those views offensive or disagreeable,” Defending Education said in a statement. As parents sit back and watch the state remove our divine right to raise our children within the bounds of our moral values, it’s hard not to wonder when the higher courts will step in to protect our ability to do that. SCOTUS The U.S. Supreme Court did step in on behalf of children in 2024 when it reversed a lower court ruling that blocked an Idaho law to protect children from irreversible procedures progressives tout as gender-affirming care for minors. Hopefully, it doesn’t come down to SCOTUS to decide whether this law is unconstitutional. It seems like a very straightforward answer. The language of HB 25-1312 is government-compelled speech, and violations of the law result in massive penalties. The lower courts should have no reason to deny the complaint against them. Still, as parents have unfortunately experienced during the rise of transgender ideology in our country, we can’t rely on the judicial system to protect our rights. The left wants you to believe that the government has the right to sever the parent-child relationship by ending the importance of parental authority. It also wants you to believe in a false reality that sex is not immutable by forcing even non-parents to use fake names and pronouns. Their ultimate goal is to get to children. They want them so badly, and you, as their parent, stand in the way. Not only should this law be struck down as unconstitutional, but any state official who voted for or otherwise signed their name to it should face serious repercussions at the ballot box. The “anything goes” and “you do you” attitude that’s prevailed for the last 15 or so years has brought us all sorts of public behavior that no one wanted. The Human Resources dictum to “bring your whole self to work” has given permission for staff to bring their marital and emotional problems to the office so what used to be private business is now everyone’s concern. Have you noticed how there are also no grooming standards anywhere anymore? If you’re in your late 40s or 50s, you remember a time not long ago when you were expected to comb your hair, tuck in your shirt, and-gasp!-even wear a clean uniform. That’s been replaced by hairy guts hanging out below food-stained T-shirts (men) and literal prostitute-wear (women). People’s faces are full of metal like nose rings and painful lip piercings, and even middle class women are covered with the kinds of tattoos formerly seen only on bikers, prisoners, and psychopaths. This strange behavior goes on in the elite classes, too. Consider ShriThanedar, an immigrant from India who represents Michigan’s 13th district in the House of Representatives. There’s no “nice” way around this: the man looks like a creation from Jim Henson’s Muppet Studios. It’s obvious from his photographs over the years that he’s been heavily reliant on makeup and hairpieces. Recently, they’ve taken on the in-vogue square shape, the kind that looks like they were drawn on with a Sharpie. Of course, we’re not supposed to comment on how people look, even when they choose their look specifically to get attention, as Thanedar appears to have done. So let’s examine his political actions. Thanedar has a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, and recently put up a video announcing his articles of impeachment against President Trump. Take a look and a listen to this weird dude. His odd priorities are not a one-off. Recently a citizen reporter interviewed Thanedar and asked him to specifically name prominent cities in the Congressional district he represents. Thanedar couldn’t do it, begging off by saying “I’m not here to answer a quiz.” Take a look.
